"When we arrived, there was blood everywhere in the yard, and the father had already been taken and rushed to the hospital."

Residents of Doornkop Block 3 described as horrific, the scenes that played out resulting in the death of Lebohang Mudau.

Mudau died on his way to hospital after he was stabbed on the upper body by his son, a 21-year-old believed to be using drugs.

Residents said on August 26, they were alerted of the incident and rushed to the scene on Mulalo Street, where they were met with blood covering the entrance of the gate into the yard.

“We were called at 2pm by the young son of the deceased to rush over. When we arrived, there was blood everywhere in the yard, and the father had already been taken and rushed to the hospital.

“He was still at the yard, the look on his eyes was very scary, he swore at the community and kept saying the vilest and cruel things with no remorse for what he did,” recalled a community member, Catherine Tshabalala.

According to residents, It is alleged that the 21-year-old was being reprimanded by his family after getting complaints from another parent, during which led to an altercation between the Mudau siblings.

They said the deceased attempted to break the fight with a sjambok, which angered the 21-year-old who allegedly proceeded to his room, where he came out armed with a knife and stabbed his father, on the upper body.

“We are still shocked. What is even worse is that we struggled to get the police. They never came until the next morning.

“The boy slept inside at the family house while the community ensured he didn’t get away.

“When the police eventually arrived he attempted to escape and was apprehended near Emdeni link road,” Tshabalala detailed.

They said the boy had a history of drug use, and they suspected he had been using them at the time of the incident.

Another resident commented, “The whole thing is scary. We never thought that we could see this happen in our community. Mudau did not deserve to die in that manner especially at the hand of his own child. He was a quiet person, offered to help people without complaining and ran a spaza shop. It is a concern when things like this happen.”

Ward 53 EFF chairperson, Sonia Mukhabela said the incident was a wakeup call that an urgent resolution was needed to address the issue of drugs.

He emphasised the need for establishing youth-led initiatives and he called for collective effort between all political parties, stakeholders in the community to come up with a clear and solid programme to deal with the growing issue of drugs and necessary support towards the boy child.

“It is a very unfortunate situation that left the community of Doornkop traumatised. Mudau was passionate about youth and would always question me that we are not really doing enough to have an impact on young people. The law must exercise its full powers on this matter.

“It must be a wakeup call for us as community leaders, I don’t think we are doing enough about the issue of drugs and paying attention to a boy child. A boy child is often neglected.

“They are not listened to, guided or mentored and they end up expressing their frustrations in the wrong manners, which we saw there,” he told the publication.

The family refused to speak to the media however Urban News understands Mudau was laid to rest over the weekend, while that the boy remains in police custody.
