Local disability centre receives donations

The generous donations of 10 wheelchairs and other necessities by organisations from Taiwan were handed over to beneficiaries at David's Care 4 U Centre

David’s Care 4 U Centre for people with disabilities in Snake Park, Block 11 received a heartfelt donation of ten wheelchairs, blankets, socks and shoes on August 24.

This comes after Mrs Soweto finalist, Tshidi Leepile and 2022 Mrs eSoweto second runner-up, Zodwa Jiyose requested assistance from various Taiwanese organisations for any essential donations that may help those with disabilities.

According to the founder of David’s Care 4 U Centre, David Titus, the centre has been operating for 22 years, under a very difficult situation without any funding or help from the government.

“I’m very grateful for the donations we have received today.

“This experience feels like a dream come true because it is the first time receiving such amazing gifts,” said Titus.

Titus added that the centre still needs a lot of assistance especially in terms of funding because it is not easy to cater for 104 people all alone as well as providing transport for those who come from Slovoville, Tshepisong and Braamfischer.

Different stakeholders including South African Chinese Women Association (SAWCA), ACA Amitofo Charity Association and Taipei Liaison Office in the Republic of South Africa worked hand in hand to make the day possible.

Pinky Matsemela, a parent who received a wheelchair for his son said she was truly grateful to all the donors and also to the founder of the centre.

“I have been struggling for almost 20 years to find a wheelchair for my son. So today I can attest that God is amazing because receiving this wheelchair is one of the best things that has ever happened to me and my son. I’m glad that I will now find it easy to take my son to the clinic,” said Matsemela.
