“This will ensure that the girl child does not find any of their activities disrupted because it is that time of the month,” said Rapetsoa.

He added that the idea to donate a soccer kit and other goods came after Kaizer Chiefs donated another gear for their 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

He continued to say that Mahuma Group decided to assist as well after realising that the team needed more help.

Rapetsoa believes that with all the GBV and inequality, it is important for men to assist and protect women. This is why he decided to sponsor the girls only team so he can show the world that Mahuma Group believes in empowering the girl child even in a male dominated field.

Mito Stars Football team coach, Mito Matola said the contribution will make it possible for the team to continue developing young women footballers in the township.

“I’m very excited to see such a big company as Mahuma Group come here to show love and support to the young girls. In most cases programmes such as the women football or women in sports take a while to obtain the support they need in order to grow,” said Matola.

Speaking to Urban News, Nthabiseng Lekena, a resident said as a parent and a member of the community she is very happy to see Mahuma Group celebrating Women’s Day with the young ladies and she is hoping that the company will continue to assist the team in the future.
