Lucas Radebe Foundation visits local school

The celebration forms part of the schools build up activities of the upcoming 60th anniversary commemoration which will be taking place in November.

Ikaneng Primary School received a special visit from the Lucas Radebe Foundation together with SASKO for their fun day celebration on August 12.

The celebration forms part of the schools build up activities of the upcoming 60th anniversary commemoration which will be taking place in November.

Founder of the foundation, Lucas Radebe, who is the product of the school said the celebration of the day is very significant since it reminds them of the history of the school.

”We can never forget where we come from because it plays a massive roe in the people we are today.

“This is why we came see the progress of the school and how it has come and I can gladly say that I am impressed with the development it has made over the years especially when it comes to the production career driven learners,” Radebe said.

The former professional footballer added that residents need to get the notation of celebrating millstones and people who have made an impact in the society, especially those who empower young learners.

The celebration of the day consisted of various artistic performances from the learners and ended on a high note with a soccer match under the guidance of Radebe.

“Our role in this celebration is motivating and looking at the school, to see the contributions that we make in the future and for me being here in the school today is very important.

“The relationship that we like to build with schools in our upcoming tournament is that we will include some of the performances that we saw here today to keep the learners motivated.”

Lucas Radebe motivated learners with a passion in sports.

SASKO representative, Kgomotso Maake sad the school is one of those the company is looking to adopt and as part of the their community initiatives, they want to raise awareness to communities to show them that they are there to support local schools.

“The celebration of today is a good initiative because we need our people to keep healthy and active.

“Our relationship with the school actually comes a long way with our Siyasizana anti bullying to raise awareness and make the learners aware of the effects of bullying,” Maaka said.

The principal of Ikaneng Primary School, Thulani Ngcobo said thorough the upcoming celebrations, they want to give parents an opportunity to find themselves and bond with the learners inside the school premises.

“Our main role is to educate learners and members of the community and we have been regarded as the centre on community activities.

“We have NGOs that use our facility as a meeting point and churches come to praise here as well as the land that is used by residents as a vegetable garden to mention a few. This shows you that the school belongs to the community,” Ngcobo said.
