1000 sanitary pads donated to local schools

“About 83 percent of girl learners in South Africa do not have regular access to sanitary pads at school and at home."

Diepkloof Square has done it again, this time they followed their theme of spreading the spirit of Ubuntu and giving back to the community by ensuring that they make a difference in communities they trade in.

The mall donated 1000 sanitary pads to four schools in Diepkloof to ensure that girl learners have their dignity while at school.

Bopanang Primary School was one of the schools to benefit from the initiative.

The schools which received this kind gesture including Ikaneng, Bopedi, Bopanang and Ipolokeng Primary School.

According to Diepkloof Square centre manager, Mbali Sindane, the mall prides itself with the ability to give back to the community and assist those in need.

“About 83 percent of girl learners in South Africa do not have regular access to sanitary pads at school and at home.

“Our mall believe in empowering our youth and community at large and as Diepkloof Square we are happy to have bridged that gap for the learners we have reached and donated to,” Sindane said.

Through this initiative, the mall aims to help restore the dignity of girl learners.

Businesses and residents are always encouraged to donate sanitary towels to bridge the lack of access gap which has led to health and hygiene problems such as UTI’s and endometriosis that may cause daily discomfort and may lead to cervical cancer, fibroids or cysts when left unattended.

“We aim to support our community and build trust that is beyond customer care. By this we mean that we are looking to bridge a gap between the community and their needs. We are looking forward to doing more for our supporters and give back to the community,” concluded Sindane.
