Allianz commemorates Mandela Day

"As Allianz, we are strongly committed to partnering with different stakeholders to enhance access and quality of education in South Africa, in line with the National Development Plan.”

Allianz visited Diepdale Secondary School with an aim to inspire the learners to work hard to achieve academic excellence on July 21.

Allianz has and continues to work with Diepdale Secondary School since 2017 through programmes such as the Allianz Maths and Science Centre and a remedial programme in partnership with First Things First to improve educational outcomes.

The school matric pass rate has increased from 58.9% to a new average of 80%, demonstrating a significant increase in the confidence and morale of teachers and learners after the establishment of the centre in 2018.

The remedial programme provides reading, comprehension, and spelling in English and extra classes for Maths, Natural Science, Technology and Economic Management Sciences for Grade eight.

“It is so refreshing to work with committed companies like Allianz. They are dedicated to their sustainability goals and they put their money where their mouth is.

“They have deployed an integrated programme that has developed a foundation for eradicating poor educational results in our schools; starting with Diepdale Secondary School,” First Things First managing director, Amanda Sebolai said.

The Allianz Maths and Science Centre enable thousands of high learners from Soweto to master maths and science in order to study further within these fields.

According to AGCS South Africa CEO, Thusang Mahlangu, Allianz has a responsibility to assist local learners with their education.

“We firmly believe that education can make the biggest sustainable impact on communities. The Allianz social responsibility programmes promote the social inclusion of youth through innovation. Ultimately with these programmes, the parents are more supportive, teachers are better educators and learners have their best chance of reaching their full potential,” Mahlangu said.

Learners at Diepdale Secondary School were treated with soup and snacks.

One Diepdale Secondary School learners, Blessing Tinyiko Shiburi (16) has the privilege to receive an opportunity to visit Germany from August 30 to September 04 as part of Allianz academic and sports programme which will be held to motivate local learners to work hard.

“Being from Soweto myself, I am thrilled to be involved in this initiative and I look forward to motivating other learners. With the help of other colleagues, we will be able to instil a lot more inspiration and have a lasting positive impact on the youth. I believe this is an excellent approach that is very much aligned with the culture of the broader Allianz community.”
