Planting 67 trees for 67 minutes in Pimville

Pimville United Brothers and Sisters (PUBS), a non-profit organisation hosted a tree planting event in honour of the Mandela Day 67 Minutes initiative.

67 trees were planted in the open space between Pimville Zone 5, 6 and 7. Over 300 people attended, including the youth and pensioners.

The event was graced by councillors from Ward 22 and Ward 25, Sebenzile Mabuza and Cambridge Kwapeng respectively. Other dignitaries included South African Music icon, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse and many others.

PUBS secretary, Tshepo Vana said, “The purpose of planting 67 trees was to give back to the community of Pimville, to turn this open space into a state-of-the-art park complete with air-conditioned containers, Wi-Fi facilities and a mini sports complex.”

The event was sponsored by Sanlam who also contributed food and caps for the people in attendance.

“This was the first phase of our plan. The second phase will involve the unveiling of tin bins to minimize and ultimately eliminate illegal dumping around this area,” Vana concluded.
