Nanduwe drivers go on a protest

Nanduwe drivers are calling for the arrest of one of their leaders they accuse of the ramparts killings.

Taxi association Nanduwe are calling on the transport ministry in the province to attend to their cries.

This comes after the association halted its taxi operations on Friday morning, blocking off traffic at the Klipvilley Road and Khumalo road, sofasonke Street, and Zephania Street in Orlando West.

In a memorandum by the taxi association, a group of drivers are calling for the arrest of one of the association’s chairmans they accuse of the rampant killing and harassment of drivers and passengers.

They also called for the arrest of his security.

They said they were concerned about the high number of deaths of their fellow drivers who are killed by hitmen allegedly hired by the chairman.

They also called for the removal of all security and squad cars, who they alleged are carrying guns and have hitmen.

The memorandum of demands also requested for the Minister of Transport or Mec of Transport to urgently deal with the matter.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the roads have reopened and they will monitor the situation.

This is a developing story.
