EFF holds commemorative walk in Orlando

The red berets are gearing for their 10th anniversary celebration at FNB later this month.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) kicked off its 10th year anniversary celebration with a commemorative walk in Orlando West on Thursday.

The walk which took place from Uncle Toms Hall to Hector Pietersen Memorial was led by the party’s president, Julius Malema and other top leaders.

Sowetans and members of the party came out in their numbers to participate in the walk and listen to Malema address them.

Before the commemorative walk, Malema addressed members of the media where he touched on various issues affecting communities such as lack of service delivery and outlined plans for the anniversary celebration which will be held at the FNB Stadium later this month.

“The EFF was formed as a response to the cries of our people in the face of betrayal by the former liberation movement, which was emphasised by the massacre of 34 miners in Marikana in defence of the white ruling class and international capital,” said Malema.

“It was in this hall on July 26 in 2013 when delegates from across the country gathered to answer the question of what is to be done.”

The leader of the red berets went on to say that ten years after the formation of the party, South Africans are still living under the same bad conditions they were in 2013.

He said they continue to “drown in massive unemployment, institutionalised corruption and lack of basic services such as water, housing, healthcare, education and electricity.”

Malema added that the EFF has reignited the politics of this country for the better while the integrity and credibility of the liberation movement continues to decline.

“What makes us proud as the EFF is that we have continued with the vision of the historic struggle and on July 29 we will be celebrating that. We will also celebrate that we have taught and gave black people a will to stand up for what is rightfully theirs,” Malema said.
