What was meant to be the first Soweto Youth Golf Day on June 16 last year had to be postponed due to protest action.

With revived spirits, Mbha is set to host this year’s caddy golf day on September 6 at the Soweto Country Club.

This is the same venue the event was originally meant to be hosted last year under the name

#SowetoYouthGolfDay which has since given birth to what we know to be the second annual #TTMbhaCaddyGolfDay.

“I am an avid social golfer and I have exposed the game of golf through my various social media platforms.

“It is important to shine a spotlight on the critical role that caddies play towards the game of golf.

“I also firmly believe in the untapped potential of the township economy, its growth and sustainability,” said Mbha when asked about how he came up with the idea of the #TTMbhaCaddyGolfDay.

This year, 100 caddy golfers from across Gauteng will compete against each other with the hope of being the first winner of the TT Mbha Caddy Golf Day and walk away with the grand prize of playing at the Nedbank Golf Challenge Pro-Am hosted in Sun City in November.

Entries for this event are officially closed as the TT Mbha Caddy Golf Day is limited to 100 caddies.

“As part of the entries, I felt it was important that every caddy appreciates the importance of saving and also operating a cashless business for safety reasons. We have partnered with Nedbank who will assist every caddy to open a savings bank account.”

Various social golfers sponsored the 100 caddies at R200 each. R100 will go towards paying the country club green fees and the remaining R100 will go towards opening a savings bank account for each caddy.
