Video: CIT suspect arrested in Eldorado Park

A 28-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested for his alleged involvement in a cash-in-transit heist in Eldorado Park on October 4.

A daring cash-in-transit heist was foiled on October 4 when members of the Eldorado Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit sprang into action.

The unit received intelligence-driven information about the robbery in progress at Corner Silver and Yster Street, Old Eldorado Park, and swiftly responded.

Upon arrival, the police learned that other suspects had fled on foot towards Slovo Park under the bridge.

The officers gave chase and apprehended one suspect, a 28-year-old Zimbabwean national, hiding under the bridge.

A 28-year-old Zimbabwean national has been arrested concerning the CIT heist that ensued at Corner Silver and Yster Street on October 4.

According to Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, Eldorado Park SAPS communication officer, the suspect was arrested and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS for further investigation.

“The suspects used an Audi vehicle to bump the Fidelity guard vehicle and then bombed it to open the back doors.

“Fortunately, they did not manage to open the safe, but one security guard sustained minor injuries during the bombing.”

The suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of money in a stolen silver Mercedes Benz, reported stolen in Kempton Park. Shots were fired by both security personnel and suspects during the incident.

Brigadier Maluleke, Eldorado Park SAPS station commander, emphasized the police’s commitment to the 72-hour turnaround strategy to bring the perpetrators to justice.
