EMPD’s security and loss control superintendent Zacharia Mofokeng said suspects broke into the municipal property on the evening of December 13.

Thirteen computer screens and four TVs were stolen from the clinic. Seen here is a hallway where one of the television screens was taken from its mountings.

He said the business burglary occurred after suspects made a hole in the property’s perimeter fence before gaining access to the clinic through a broken window.

“We are not sure what time the incident occurred, but believe the crime was committed during load-shedding,” said Mofokeng.

He said 13 computer monitors and four televisions were stolen.

“No staff were injured and we have not been informed of any other losses.”

Mofokeng said although these crimes are common during the festive season, he said it was the first burglary of this kind to occur in the northern region, specifically Edenvale.

He believed the suspects were committing a crime of opportunity. A case of business burglary was registered with Edenvale SAPS.

In light of the incident, Mofokeng advised all municipal staff to ensure that windows and doors are securely fastened and closed. He urged them to make sure facilities are properly secure before leaving for home.
