Local Hospice hosts annual the Candles Celebration

It will be held on October 14 from 17:00 to 20:00 at St Dunstan’s Preparatory School.

Life is a journey, and sometimes, amid the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we forget to slow down and savour the moments that truly matter.

It is in these moments we find the essence of life, the warmth of loved ones, and the strength to face life’s challenges head-on.

Hospice East Rand believes in celebrating life throughout its entirety, not just as it ends.

As such, NPO invites community members to join it at the annual Candles Celebration.

It will be held on October 14 from 17:00 to 20:00 at St Dunstan’s Preparatory School.

According to the NPO’s marketing and media liaison, Jonquil Siepman, the heartwarming gathering will remind attendees of the importance of palliative care.

Described as more than an event, the Candles Celebration is a space where families can come together to embrace life, honour those journeying through life-limiting illnesses, and remember and celebrate the loved ones who have passed on.

Siepman said, “It’s about creating a pause in the fast-paced world we live in, to cherish the present and the beauty it holds.”

She said joy and inspiration would fill the celebration.

“Imagine enjoying delicious dishes from our food trucks while seated on your picnic blanket or at one of our tables.

“Picture the enchanting melodies of community musicians filling the air, setting the perfect backdrop for an evening of togetherness,” she said.

This year, Hospice is thrilled to have Nicky Dickson, a narrative therapist and co-creator at the Institute for Creative Conversation, as our guest speaker.

“Nicky’s words are not just motivational; they are transformational. Her message will touch your heart and leave you with a renewed appreciation for life’s journey.”

As the sun sets, those gathered will light candles as symbols of hope and beacons of love and remembrance.

“These candles, which will be on sale at the gate, are a tangible representation of the light we bring to each other’s lives,” explained Siepman.

Besides celebrating life and remembering the departed, Hospice has a musical treat in store for attendees.

Jesse Clegg will celebrate life through music, while the Benoni Pipe Band, a mother-and-daughter duo who sing, and the talented string siblings on the violin and cello will entertain.
