Austin Mbedzi, coordinator of sports, youth and arts culture and a community member said, “Each and every time we host a fun walk, we make sure to identify a certain loophole within our community and we act upon it. With the high rate of unemployment and young people resorting to substance abuse, the South African youth has reached a state of despondency.

However, regardless of the hard realities that young people encounter, the youth of Chiawelo has chosen to safeguard the safety of their community by becoming members of the CPF.

Cllr Tebogo Moeti of Ward 12 said, “It really makes me happy to see young people standing up for themselves as well as the community they reside in out of love.

“But the truth is that, it pains me to see our young people without jobs and having a 25-year-old still depending on their parent’s pension fund. I would really be happy if we as the community can appreciate them.”

Mbedzi said, “As active members of the society, we tend to occupy all the historical days with different activities which helps us find ways in which we deal with our imbalances. This is our way of tackling one problem at a time.”

Cllr Moeti concluded with advising young people to always look out for each other. “If we can learn to light each other’s candles as a community so that we can all get to where we want to be then we would be a united flourishing community.”
