Local elders receive winter blankets

The Ria Ledwaba Foundation donated 50 blankets to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Diepkloof as part of their winter initiative.

The elderly congregation of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church could not help but to beam with smiles after they received the blankets.

Elderly members of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Zone 2 could not help but celebrate in praises as they receive winter blankets from the Ria Ledwaba Foundation.

Gathered at the church to receive the Holy Communion, the elders were surprised when the chairperson of the foundation, Ashley Rasebotsa together with a group known as the Prayer Men League presented them with blankets.

The elderly congregation of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church were excited as they received winter blankets from the foundation.

The Ria Ledwaba Foundation was founded with a commitment to present life opportunities to young people through sports.

This is done by ensuring that previously disadvantaged residents receive the support needed to compete professionally as well as to educate, empower and transform their lives.

The elderly congregation of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church could not help but to beam with smiles after they received the blankets.

According to the chairperson of the Prayer Men League, Tom Mojela, as part of the programmes they have for their elderly congregants, they wrote a letter to the foundation requesting for blankets and within two weeks, they received 50.

“Happy is an understatement, we are all delighted. We have plans and objectives for the year and we feel very happy to tick at least one of the boxes off our goals.

“Our elders cannot come every Sundays because they are old and fragile but they attend every second Saturday of the month and today it warms our hearts that they are gathered on this heartwarming occasion,” Mojela said.

He added thatthey are grateful that they were able to put smiles on faces of the welders.

Rasebotsa said this forms part of foundation’s community projects for the winter season to support the disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the community.

The Emmanuel Lutheran Church expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chairperson of Ria Ledwaba Foundation, Ashely Rasebotsa,

“As a foundation we want to leave a better place than we found it and we are very humbled that we have received support from various people including the community who donated blankets to us so that we give them to residents in need.

To present this gesture is very heartwarming for us and we happy that we are able to assist where we can because there are people who do not have blankets and we might take it light since some of sleep warm in our homes.” Rasebotsa said.

He added the foundation has also put into place various programs to assist communities internationally.
