First Cholera case discovered in Thembisa

Wash hands before and after preparing food and after using the toilet.

Health practitioners have detected the first case of cholera in Thembisa.

The discovery was made by Gauteng Department of Health practitioners who were crisscrossing the city to educate communities about cholera prevention, treatment, and care.

The case was registered at the Thafeni Clinic.

Residents have been reminded to disinfect and clean surfaces because the cholera bacteria spread from contaminated water.

Cholera prevention tips:

• Treat or sterilise the water before drinking or cooking.

• Boil water for at least one minute before drinking.

• Put one teaspoon of household bleach into 25 litres of water.

• Wash your hands with soap and water.

• Use sanitation facilities that are safely managed to get rid of fasces.

• Do not put plastic bags in chemical toilets.
