Makhaya shows kindness to Maweni Primary School

The school kitchen did not prepare food for the learners whoever the Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchen made a delicious soap and Blue Ribbon provided fresh bread for the learners.

Isizinda Sempilo, an HIV and Gender Based Violence prevention organisation recently conducted an event for Maweni Primary School learners in honour of Bongani Makhaya’s birthday who is the founder and executive director of the organisation.

“I attended school at Maweni Primary School in 1970 and my mother was also a teacher here, so as a tribute I have decided to give back to the school.

“What prompted me to come here today is that last year the school celebrated 60 years and I could not attend and that was bothering. I decided to reach out to the school so as to try and help where can,” said Makhaya

Makhaya added that he reached out to different stakeholders such as Blue Ribbon, Grassroot Soccer and Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchen for donations. All the stakeholders attended the celebration and handed over their donations in the school.

20 pairs of school shoes were given to learners who needed them, soccer balls for the school team and two printers.

Maweni Primary School Principal, Bathabile Kanetsi said, “I feel overwhelmed by what the organisation has done, reaching out to our learners who are in absolute poverty.

“This outreach will really make a difference to the children of this school,” said Kanetsi.

“We are indeed happy today and grateful to Isizinda Sempilo for what they did for us, they donated things that we needed the most. I hope what they did today at this school they can do to other schools as well,” said Maweni primary SGB member, Terrance Buthelezi.
