This as children from a local preschool spent the day being educated about Mother Nature and taking care of the environment.

The event was organised by AS-U-R Community Empowerment and Development Foundation, a local organisation with a focus on faring and food security. It was hosted at Missouri Secondary School where AS-U-R runs a community garden.

Environmental activists were invited to talk to children about the importance of taking care of nature and growing ones food.

Mirriam Heyes said it was important to educate children about the environment while they are still young.

This helps make it easy for them to spread the message when they get home and it is easy for them to grow with good habits.

“With the event we also wanted to raise awareness about water conservation and make children aware of the ways to spare water and how to be good to our environment,” explained Heyes.

The day was not just about speeches and leaning but fun activities were also prepared for the children. They were each given a sunflower seed to plant which they will have to take care as it grows.
