Tyron Pols, project manager at SAME foundation said, “The purpose of today was to open a brand-new computer centre at the school which will give all the children access to computer literacy. It is the most important learning aspect for children at a young age to become technologically advanced and have access to modern education.”

With South Africa being one of the most unequal societies in the world when it comes to education, it is organisations like these that aim to close that gab through identifying a need in local schools and act on it.

According to Adcock Ingram group executive of public affairs, Nkosinathi Mthethwa, it is children from the suburbs who get the opportunity to have access to proper education with advanced technological skills. Learners from townships and rural areas are left with little knowledge of what could make their future flourish.

“There is always that consistency of forgetting about the children that are outside the city’s periphery. Personally, I know what it’s like to lack basic infrastructure that every child has the right to,” said Mthethwa.

“Today we are going to have more of what we are seeing. These learners will be software designers and computer scientists.”

“This is going to upskill our learners and we are happy to have computer programmes as part of our curriculum. We truly appreciate them because this is a major step for the school to have the necessary skill to be part of the 4IR generation,” principal Jacobs said.
