The awards will feature local women in business to celebrate and applaud those who have started their own businesses as well as to recognise women who are hard-working, ambitious, and exceptional as well as those who chose the path of self-employment.

The Soweto Women in Business Awards will take place on July 29.

According to the founder of Popa Hustlers, Letlhogonolo Mogale, their aim is to encourage present and upcoming women in business as well as to acknowledge all the good work and hardships they encounter in the industry.

“The wards are going to motivate the recipients, attendees and those with underlying passion for business. We also want to expose women in business to opportunities as they will get an opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs,” Mogale said.

Popa Hustlers has already received 11 nominations, with the awards having 20 categories, including Best New Registered Business, Outstanding Entrepreneur, Family Business of the Year, The Work-life Balance award and Best Mentor, to name a few.

“We have prizes such as a marketing package, legal compliance and cash prizes which will boost their entities.

“We choose to acknowledge them this way because we want the awards to serve as a reminder to keep on pushing, working hard and to never give up. We believe that having it as a certificate will motivate and inspire them.”

Mogale added that entrepreneurship is important in the society, especially with the high unemployment rate the country is faced with.

According to recent statics, South Africa’s unemployment rate eased to 32.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022, the lowest since the first quarter of 2021, from 32.9 percent in the prior period.

“One can be able to earn an honest living through entrepreneurship; they can create job opportunities and contributes to their personal growth. It is very important for people to not depend on others and use their talents, skills and gifts to earn a living.”

Attendees will also be taken thorough the process and importance of business compliance as a way to grow their businesses and build creditability.

“We had the idea of hosting Soweto Women in Business Awards when we realized how women are still side-lined when it comes to business.

“They are considered as emotional and weak to run a successful business which is not true. Women are very much capable.

“We wanted to inspire them to be independent by earning their own money and what better way of doing that if not by starting their own businesses?”
