Local learners receive sanitary towels

As part of the pageants women empowerment program, the Miss Township South Africa semi-finalists are required to raise a minimum of 60 sanitary towels towards the Little Girl Arise South Africa organisation.

Grade eight learners from Fons Luminus Secondary School received a special visit from Miss Township South Africa 2023 semi-finalist, Naniki Seboni on April 26.

The vibrant and spirited Malignant Melanoma stage three survivor and motivational speaker has taken her distinct voice and unique journey to establish an expanding outreach programme which has travelled across the country.

As part of the pageant’s women empowerment programme, Miss Township South Africa semi-finalists are required to raise a minimum of 60 sanitary towels towards the Little Girl Arise South Africa organisation.

Learners from Fons Luminus Secondary School received a special visit from Miss Township South Africa 2023 semi-finalist, Naniki Seboni.

Seboni, the Cancer Unicorn has honed her expertise and passions in media and fused her inspirational cancer survival story to originate a stirring and motivational discourse.

As cancer advocate and awareness facilitator, she joined forces with organisations such as CANSA, becoming an integral thread in the web that is an upbeat supportive community of survivors that inspire and motivate.

“The visit at the school is very close to my heart, it brought me back to when I was still a teenager and suffering from mental health issues.

“Back then, I did not have a name for it and didn’t know what the problem with me was. I just used to cry myself to sleep and I knew that I was not okay, although I could not communicate my feelings to anyone, including my parents and friends.

“Until I spoke to my other friend one day and found out she was going through the same frustrations,” Seboni said.

Seboni added that when looking at Fons Luminus Secondary School female learners, it breaks her heart that they have to go through the peer pressure of social media influence and she always asks herself how they cope through these challenges.

The Grade eight learners had the privileged to get a one on one interaction with various women in the entertainment and modelling industry, including Breast Cancer Survivor and speaker, Bagezile Masondo, Miss Universe Africa 2022, Mpho Mogotsi and Miss South Africa 2023, Palesa Matjekane.

“The aim of this engagement was to get a clear understanding of the challenges they go through in their teenage and puberty stages and I am glad to say that most of them have opened up to us and they also took part in the presentations and tasks which were assigned to them.”

As part of her love and passion for the community, Seboni has also proven herself a forthright live wire, steering campaigns which have reached over 50,000 people.

Imparting encouragement and inspiration, she’s addressed thousands of school learners across South Africa, and has reached thousands more people with Cancervive on their flagship rides.

Miss Township South Africa 2023 semi-finalist, Naniki Seboni engaged with the learners on issues of puberty and womanhood.

In closing, Seboni said, “I wanted to be a big sister to the learners that I have never had as they voice out their frustrations in relation to womanhood. Young women deserve to have sanitary towels as a basic need. I am glad for this opportunity to engage with the learners.”
