Local stroke survivor gets special wheelchair

Adonisi, like many young people, never dreamed that she would experience a stroke, and as an outgoing person at the time, she never imagined living her life wheelchair-bound.

The Kasi Hero Foundation successfully donated a special wheelchair to Jabulile Adonisi (29) in Freedom Park on March 24.

After suffering from stroke in 2014, Adonisi’s life changed for the worst as she lost her mobility and was left with no choice but to depend on those around her.

As described in medical terms, a stoke refers to the loss of blood flow to part of the brain which damages brain tissue and can also result sudden numbness or weakness in various body parts especially on one side of the body as well as confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.

“I can’t really remember the details of what happened that day but the incident changed my life in a way I never imagined.

“Since then, I had to adjust to a new way of living as a person with disability.

“I am grateful to BI Phakathi and Kasi Hero Foundation for changing my life with this kind gesture,” Adonisi said.

After posting Adonisi’s video on Twitter asking for donations to help buy a wheelchair and to further her studies, Kasi Hero Foundation was pleased when one of their regular sponsors, BI Phakathi responded and reached out to assist Adonisi.

Known for motivational speaking and pledging donations and helping those in need, Phakathi successfully donated an undisclosed amount of money which will be used to help Adonisi register in school and further her studies as well as a CE Mobility special wheelchair.
