Bread of the nation campaign feeds the community of Rispark

Castle Lager brand partnered with SA Harvest to launch their first-of- its kind better world initiative bread of the nation.

On March 9, the Castle lager brand along with SA Harvest visited an informal settlement called Rispark to launch their very first bread of the nation initiative. During the visit, residents were given loaves of fresh baked bread.

The launch had four guest speakers which were Alan Browde the CEO of S.A Harvest, Wendy Bedford from Castle Lager, Thomas Lowrance the marketing director of Castle Lager and Mpho Tshukudu, a dietician and author.

“Castle Lager has been around for 127 years; it is a very iconic brand that has brought South Africans together with things that matters the most.

The community of Rispark.

“Me and my initiative team discovered that the spring grain product can be used to make a very delicious and nutritious bread, then we decided to bake the bread.

“We then made investigations and found communities that needed the bread the most and that’s why we are here,” said Lowrance.

According to Lowrance, the day one of the initiative was overwhelming as many residences attended which was considered as positive feedback. The campaign is planning to help even more South Africans especially from poor communities.

“The aim is to be an active citizen of South Africa and also do good. We as the Castle Lager team want to inspire other companies as well as anybody who can make a difference, and hopefully South Africa sees us as active citizens who are doing something meaningful,” added Lowrance.

The bread of the nation campaign will continue feeding the poor communities but SA Harvest will undertake the distribution of the loaves through its 200 community-based partners for the next three years.

“We have an infrastructure that is wide and varied, so obviously we will deliver the bread to beneficiaries starting from communities in Johannesburg,” said Browde.
