Heerengracht Primary School in Eldorado Park won the athletics sport championship trophy for the second year in a row with 101 points.

Alison Trompeter, sports master at Heerengracht Primary School says, “This is an amazing experience for me and I am very proud of our athletes. I always give God all the glory, it was because him that we brought the trophy back again.”
“I have been telling the learners that we are going to bring back the trophy home and it actually happened and that joy and feeling of seeing it happen was just amazing,” she added.
The sports competition included multiple athletics activities including sprint, cross country walks, long jump as well as short put, where Heerengracht came first in all the schools that participated.
“The sports committee was absolutely amazing in the way we worked together. It is because of them and our athletes we were able to accomplish this for the second year in a row,” said Principal Eden Daniels.

Sports allows learners an opportunity to express themselves and connect with other people. The social benefits play a vital role in the development of the learner in society by teaching them how to contribute to a team.
Kids tend to idle a lot when their minds are only narrowed into one dimension of school activities. It is imperative that schools try to give sport activities the same amount of dedication to keep learners effective.
Principal Daniels explains that, “Not all learners are academically strong, most of the time we find learners that struggling with academically but very good in sports. This gives them the confidence to know that they can achieve anything they put their minds to.”
The school is aiming to go for the hat-trick since they have proven to be unstoppable in Eldorado Park.
