Local musician is driven by passion

Last year also formed part as one of the challenging times in her career as she had to juggle school and performing.

Musician, Rokunda Pertunia Mutheiwana from Limpopo known on stage as Rockzie aims to make a name for herself in the industry.

The now Soweto resident gained passion and love for music when she used to be a backing singer with her mother, Thabelo Mutheiwana for well-known gospel artists.

Rockzie has shared stage with South African award winning musician, Makhadzi.

Rockzie later joined the Vhavenda Cultural Group were their manager Mpho Miriri saw Rockzis’s talent and encouraged her to produce her first song titled Vumani Bo. From there, she received exposure and had an opportunity to share the stage with South African award winning musician Makhadzi in 2021.

“As an upcoming artist, I face various challenges in the industry and I have to work twice harder to make a name for myself and that on its own is a challenge,” Rockzie said.

She added that last year also formed part as one of the challenging times in her career as she had to juggle school and performing.

“Having to focus on school and work was challenging but I am grateful that I managed to pass my matric exams and can now focus on what am most passionate about- my music career.”

Rockzie said she is passionate about music since it enables her to make people happy and connect with them.

Some of her achievements in the industry includes, performing in various places and being featured at Sizzle City food and Wine Experience festival in Richards Bay.

She has also worked with artists such as DJ Mimmz Africa, Deevo, Masana Studios and BHK under Miriri Productions and was mentored by Miriri Production’s very own popular artist, Trica Selala.

One of her songs titled Inkayezi took fans by surprise when it started to trend in the media and was also played in the country’s well known radio stations such as Phalaphala Fm, Metro Fm, and Ukhozi Fm.

“After passing my matric examinations, i released a song titled Ndiwa Mashudu- Mbilu yanga to dakala. The songs talks about how lucky and happy I am to have overcome this milestone and am still going to strive to make a name for myself.”
