Local Gogo celebrates 104th birthday

Gogo Madi was blessed with eight children and is now left with four children, ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family of gogo Elizabeth Madi in Dube Village felt blessed to witness her 104th birthday celebration.

Gogo Madi who mostly speaks Afrikaans was born on February 07, 1919 in Hardenberg and later moved to Dube Village where she lived most her life.

Gogo Madi was blessed with eight children and is now left with four children, ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Her first grandchildild, Brenda Madi describes her as a quit person who has been there for them throughout their childhood up to now.

“My grandmother has been a blessing in our lives and we thank God for keeping her thus far. She always taught us to respect others and to live our lives to the fullest because tomorrow is not promised,” Brenda said.

Brenda adds that her grandmother has never drank alcohol in her life and had also motivated them to live a healthy lifestyle and described it as her secret recipe to a long life.

“Most people in the area love and respect gogo because she is a people’s person and she is very peaceful.

“We are grateful that God has showed his blessings in her life, this shows us that when you do good things in your life, goodness and mercy shall follow you until eternity.”

Gogo Madi’s first born child, Aleta Hadebe (73), said they are really happy and blessed that gogo was blessed with the privilege to see her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow thus far.

“Although she is no longer active than before, we are still learning a lot from her. Her presence in our lives means a lot and we would like to see her grow even further from here.”
