Together Mnzansi launched

As a country it is important to be mindful of our differences in order to understand the urgency of in the conversation for those in need.

On Thursday February 02, McDonald’s South Africa launched Together Mzansi, a nation-building initiative and a call to action for communities to come together and find solutions to the challenges we face as a society.

Together Mzansi is a collective effort of all levels of society, to make a positive difference to the lives of people and communities. It embodies the spirit of Ubuntu.

McDonald’s South Africa launched Together Mzansi

Daniel Padiachy, Chief Marketing Officer at McDonald’s South Africa said, “In the past three years, we have held hands with communities who have shown resilience and unwavering spirit during the dark tides of the Covid-19 pandemic, devastating floods and political instability.

“It is these events that gave rise to a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration, compelling us together with our partners, customers and stakeholders to do more for our communities,” he added.

Though this initiative, the brand has been able to supports education though computer literacy in rural schools.

“McDonald’s has sponsored our school with 21 laptops and have provided our children with computer literacy skills.

“They are giving these children opportunities that we were deprived of and giving them a sense of purpose without any fees,” said Nonhlanhla Shandu, deputy Principal at Sekusile Primary School.

Your purpose as an individual is not the thing you do but it is the thing that happens in others when you do what you do. Together Mzansi is calling on all NGOs and corporates to become active citizens and give back to the communities they live under.

The brand has also built two rooms at Baragwanath Hospital to restore hope for the parents that are waiting for their children to get better.

This was after seeing how young women sit on the floor waiting for their infants to be healed, also waiting to breastfeed them.

McDonald’s South Africa launched Together Mzansi

Greg Solomon CEO of McDonald’s SA said, “We cannot provide medical care or medicine at McDonald’s, but what we can do is we can give hope and love.

“We brought basic care needs to the parents though chairs, couches, water and coffee machines. We gave them hope and the ability to hold hands and pray together.”

It is not about our diversity but it is about our differences. As a country it is important to be mindful of our differences in order to understand the urgency of in the conversation for those in need.

“We understand that we triumph as a country when we stand together and this philosophy aims to remind all of us to do so now, as the country faces various challenges.

“Mzansi is known for the spirit of ubuntu, ‘I am because you are.’ Sisonke, Re kaofela, We are Together Mzansi,” Padiachy concluded.
