He said, “Tolstoy Farm was inaugurated in 1910 by Herman Kallenbach who was a fan and good friend of Mahatma Karamchand Gandhi. Kallenbach allowed the land to be used by the Satyagrahas to stay at the farm.

It was 1100 acres and it had about 1000 fruit trees and a vegetable garden to sustain the community.

“It included a school for the children and accommodated about 70 -80 families and they were educated about Satyagraha, a path of social change through passive resistance. This is the foundation of Satyagraha in South Africa.”

Councillor Moosa shared his gratitude and said, “As Sensei Mohan Hira’s tireless efforts and dedication are recognised and appreciated, we look forward to including the City in the near future.
