Through the Creative Exchange (NCX), the brand aims to recognise emerging South African fine artists who demonstrate exceptional ability and help them take the next steps in their careers.

Turning this lens of creativity as a means of creating positive change, Nando’s launched an internal music talent search competition called the Nandoca Uhurus.

The winning Nandocas (the name for the people who are part of the Nando’s family ) have been through a mentorship programme and launched a professionally produced EP titled Ngizobuy’ Ek’seni which was an inspiring new youth anthem, at Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival on October 27.

The four Nandoca Uhurus are Cebolakhe “DJ Cebo” Mathenjwa, Mbongeni “Mbongeni” Dlamini, Obakeng “Tswakatoy” Thabagae and Thulani “2LA” Putsoenyane.

Nandoca Uhuru has enjoyed not just the main show at Basha Uhuru, but they also had several personalised master classes and workshops in collaboration with Flame Studios, including song-writing with Bonga Kwana, who is an alumni at Bridges Academy, a Nando’s music partner.

They also joined the workshops organised by Bridges For Music which focused on brand imaging, creative collaboration and taking care of their mental health.

The EP was created in partnership with Flame Studios, where the Nandocas have enjoyed extensive hands-on mentorship from Martin Nkanyiso, producer and composer, and Mzwandile “Mzwa” Ngubeni who heads up Heatwave, Nando’s internal radio station.

“We have curated these young musicians who can bring flavour to music. Music gives you expression and they are expressing themselves.

“This song is an expression; a call to every young person to rise,” Mzwa said.

The track is available on the Nando’s Creativity YouTube channel, and the group is hoping to secure commercial radio play following their Basha Uhuru experience.
