As part of the project, the JDA aims to create short-term job opportunities and employ community-based emerging contractors. To date, 35 job opportunities and five community-based emerging contractors are part of the project.

“This project has had various challenges in the past that have delayed its implementation, but we are happy that the JDA made sure this project is back on track,” explained JDA Executive Manager: Project Implementation, Siyabonga Genu.

The implementation of the project has undergone challenges with two previous contractors who started the work had their contracts terminated due to poor performance, which delayed the completion of the project.

“The safety of the public and all affected parties remains of the utmost importance to us. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” Genu added.

The new appointed contractor, DKBP Construction will complete the undone scope of work which includes the construction of sidewalks, replacing damaged kerbs, construction of new storm water infrastructure and associated works, protection of services, remedial work to existing storm water services, construction of signage and markings and the construction of attenuation dam and fencing.
