Local school visited by Allianz Global Corporate for best wishes on exams

The camp saw Diepdale Secondary School compete with Fidelitas Comprehensive School in the soccer and netball games.

Allianz Global Corporate and Speciality (AGCS) recently visited Diepdale Secondary School to wish learners well in their final examinations.

AGCS also launched its Move Now programme to support and strengthen learning in the school by offering learners an opportunity to stay active through art and sport.

Diepdate SecondaRY School learners rendered items of traditional dance to the audience.

Three former learners from Alexander, Tebatso Sekoaleng, Molly Mathole and Amina Alaoui shared their experience on the previous trip they had to Germany in 2018 and 2019 following the soccer sponsorship they received from AGCS.

Mathole said they were lucky to have received this opportunity and will remain grateful.

“AGCS sponsored us with everything during our trip, from toiletries, flights tickets and accommodation.

“We will never take that opportunity for granted because it shows that no matter who you are and where you come from, you can still dream and aim for the skies,” Mathole said.

Allianz is confident that sporting activities have a great impact on the mental and physical well-being being of learners.

They have now partnered with former Banyana Banyana Captain and football legend, Portia Modise as well as retired international netball player and coach, Dumisani Chauke who led the Allianz Move Now Camp.

According to Thusang Mahlangu, CEO of AGCS, their partnership with the school started in 2017 and through various programmes such as the Allianz Maths and Science Centre, Saturday School and the Remedial Programme, they managed to improve the matric pass rate from 58. 9 % in 2018 to an average of 80 %.

“We want to balance what the learners do in the classrooms and extra mural activities because it is important to have a balance of a healthy mind and body.

“As matric learners are about to write their final exams we wish them all the best and we are confident that they will do well has we have prepared them early,” Mahlangu said.

Principal of Diepdale Secondary, Johanness Mnakisi said the school management was thrilled to see the excitement on the learners as they take part in the initiative and also wished matric leaners well on their final examinations.

“We are privileged to witness this day and we hope it will motivate learners to take their education seriously and broaden their learning horizons,” Mnakisi said.
