Visually impaired locals helped with better eyesight

The Soweto Opti Eyewear company situated opposite Bara taxi rank wants to celebrate the eye awareness campaign by honouring the community of Soweto through the donation of 20 spectacles in schools.

The month of October comes an eye awareness campaign for people who live with blindness and the visually in the impaired community.

The Soweto Opti Eyewear company situated opposite Bara taxi rank wants to celebrate the eye awareness campaign by honouring the community of Soweto through the donation of 20 spectacles in schools.

This also aimed at educating the people of Soweto about the importance of taking care of their eyes.

Just like every other monthly check-up or consultation, it’s also essential for people to consider their optical health through eye testing.

Kgosi Stanford Manthata, PR manager for the Opti eyewear advices people to avoid home remedies to treat their problems because it causes more irritation on the eye.

“We rub our eyes every day and run to purchase prescribed eye drops. Our parents tell us to use our morning urine or apply salt to treat the swelling and irritation but that can destroy the eye even further,” said Kgosi.

They want to give back to the community of Soweto and urging schools to recommend those learners that are suffering from eye sight issues, more specially matriculants.

Remember, if a learner is unable to see they can actually fail because they can’t comprehend what is written on the question paper due to optical inefficiency.

This is another way of eliminating one of the factors that inhibit learners from doing well at school right before they sit in for their final exams.

“Let them see so that they can progress academically,” said Kgosi.

The whole process of selecting those learners will be centred around each school’s data dynamics of their learners.

Dr Refiloe Molefe and Charlotte Meje will conduct the tests and provide a solution fort the diagnosis of the eye as well donated a direct prescription of the eyewear and also recommend to an ophthalmologist.
