Pruluv whose real name is Prudence Mathebula is no stranger in the entertainment industry, having worked with some of the biggest radio stations both as a presenter, producer and now DJ.

She said the partnership with the vodka brand was everything she stood for, and was looking forward to sharing her vast experience and knowledge with the contestants.

“As someone who advocates for females, and passionate about empowering young people particularly females, this partnership really aligns with who I am and speaks the same language as me.

“It’s exactly what I’ve been doing where during lockdown in 2020, I started the Pruluv sessions for young and upcoming female DJs on my social media platforms.”

She noted that despite many years in the industry, there was little to no change towards female DJs, adding that transformation in the industry was long overdue. She shared that females were still undermined as the industry was largely dominated by males.

“I have been exposed to the music industry from various fronts and I can tell you that the industry is still having a disparity of female DJs not being given the same treatment as male counterparts in terms of the pay disparities, the opportunities and the respect.

“We still getting such comments that you play like a guy and that’s not a compliment. It’s an insult,” she lambasted.

Despite the industry politics and gatekeeping, the club DJ said she was excited and was looking forward to her new role, adding that while it was entertainment, they hoped to shift the conversation where female DJs are concerned.

“We are ot only looking for technical skill but we want to empower them, even the ladies who don’t make it into the finals have something to take away from the experience in terms of learning the tricks and trade of the industry. How to get gigs, how to brand and market themselves and importantly longevity. We want to make sure that five years from now, the winner is a household name.”

Pruluv left her IT career to fully focus on media where she worked as a presenter and producer on Radio Veritas and later joined Chanel O Radio but her big break came when she interned with Metro FM. She officially kick started her DJ journey in 2014 – however, her love for the decks dates back to tertiary.

She has featured her mixes on prime time shows on MetroFM, Lesedi FM, uMhlobo Wenene and SABC 1 and shared the stage with major local acts including Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta, Black Motion, Master KG to name but a few. She advised females wanting to get into DJ’ing to be consistent, and practice a lot.

“Start with where you are at and with what is available to you. There really is no one way to go about it. And practice as much as you can. Fine tune those skills.

“Allow yourself to learn and get into it because female DJs are heavily criticized for their technical skills. Start falling in love with the journey of learning,” said Pruluv.
