TikToker uses humour to address mental health

Individuals dismiss humor or skits as pointless because they don't realise how mood-altering entertainment can be.

Keamogetswe Mokgosi from Ebony Park, popularly known as Rare Music or Seganana, is a 30-year-old musician who uses the power of the internet to show off his skill and promote mental health awareness.

He helps his followers with their daily problems through comedy content.

The 30-year-old is passionate about creating music, but he refused to let that confine him or make him only renowned for his musical endeavors.

Mokgosi then had the notion to open a TikTok account with the sole purpose of entertaining.

One of the videos he posted later went viral, resulting in him gaining followers.

“Since I was a young child, I have always wanted to be a performer. I began with music after falling in love with a music instrument and then became a producer.

“But as society has changed and social media has become more popular, I didn’t want to limit my activities to just making music. This is why I made the decision to create a TikTok account that allowed me to express myself freely.

“Along with making people laugh, I made the decision to make comedy content with the intention of destigmatising common and yet sensitive issues. It turned out that my audience related to my work, so I guess I succeeded in my goal.”

He said he has been able to raise awareness about the mental health concerns encountered by young people.

Individuals dismiss humor or skits as pointless because they don’t realise how mood-altering entertainment can be. It can help people forget their problems at the time and improve their mental health,” said Mokgosi.

“I’ve made it a point to participate actively in the comments and to create a space where my supporters can express their thoughts without fear of retribution.

“It’s essential to me that I don’t just produce stuff that people don’t relate to and I do not tolerate negativity.”
