The Sasol Techno X career guidance exhibition returns virtually as it enters day three of its one-of-a-kind programme into the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Innovation (STEAMI) careers and study perspectives.

The annual career exhibition spearheaded by the SA energy giant attracts more than 20,000 young leaders and innovators each year, and opens up the awe-inspiring vistas of the exciting disciplines and career choices in science, mathematics and technology to the youth.

Head of Sasol Foundation, Noxolo Kahlana said, “South Africa has a youth unemployment crisis, yet at the same time, we face critical shortages of young talent in fields such as engineering and technology.

“With Sasol Techno X, we highlight how STEAMI education opens up exciting employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people.”

This year event will feature inspiring prestigious speakers and panellists, representing a wide scope of entrepreneurs, scientists, technologists, engineers, innovators and educationalists including Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, International Keynote Speaker Nicky Verd, Vice-Chancellor of University of Johannesburg, Prof Tshilidzi Marwala, and Themba Makamo, Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Vaya Footwear.

The four days of tours, talks, displays and hands-on activities and workshops will focus on the STEAMI careers of the future, youth entrepreneurship and employability, and digital literacy.

Discussions will also look at the opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in South Africa.

“If you’re nearing the end of your school career, we urge you to join us to learn how you can prosper, explore, create, innovate and make a difference by choosing a career in STEAMI. By choosing to become scientists, engineers, technologists, and innovators, the next generation can unleash the economic potential and global competitiveness of our country,” Kahlana said, urging young people to learn more about the field by taking part in the event.The week-long event will continue on virtual platforms until September 16.
