“Our children covered careers ranging from teachers, lawyers, engineers, doctors, social workers, vets, police officers, professional soccer players and we even had an astronaut this year,” said Life Orientation teacher, Kurtis Holland.

The career day is said to be an annual formal assessment for the Life Orientation subject at the school.

Holland noted that it is important for the learners to do research about their potential careers and to also envision themselves as those professionals.

“So often our kids do not see themselves out of the situations they are in and it is important to give them something to look forward to.

“This career day counts for 70% of their Life Orientation mark because they had to make a CV, submit research, make a poster and present in front of their classmates, the Deputy Principal Mrs Klassen and our Principal, Mr Louw,” Holland said.

This year learners were also visited by a parent, a computer programmer and a climate change activist.

The learners also had to find out information like where they would need to study, what types of activities they will do on a daily basis, the amount of money they would earn and also had to dress according to their aspiring professions.

“My eyes were full of tears when I saw how much effort they put into it and I felt like a proud father.

“My classroom is an environment where every child is encouraged to love and to believe in themselves. I pray that their dreams come true,” concluded Holland.
