Local NPO adds food donations to portfolio

Over 35 learners at the institution all walked away with loaves of bread given to the Non-profit organisation by Sunbake bread.

Food and logistics group RCL Foods, bakery division donates to the Winny Radebe Foundation in its ambitious quest to aid communities with its latest donation to the Lufhereng Primary School.

This time, over 35 learners at the institution all walked away with loaves of bread given to the Non-profit organisation by Sunbake bread.

“The last time we were here, we promised this was the start of a long relationship and so it gives us great pleasure to be able to once again come and assist where we can and we hope that sunbake will come on board beyond today and feed more children,” said Radebe

Radebe shared that her baggiest wish was to give out the breads on a weekly basis’s as this would have more impact.

“The ethos of our foundation is happiness and love and as we carry our mandate, ours is to ensure that these kids are fed and that will ensure that they are able to concentrate in class and be productive,” she added.

Musa Shiphakoa, Sunbake’s Sales Representative said this was the little they could do currently but hoped to join more outreach programmes like the foundation in reaching out to more communities in need.

“We work in a lot of townships and of course we get to see the struggling communities due to poverty and unemployment. I specifically work hand to glove with communities and when the foundation approached us seeking donations for learners,” He explained.

“Unfortunately we didn’t have a budget but we felt compelled to lend a hand because these affected communities are the same people who support us and so it was befitting that they get our support.”

The Deputy Principal, Sherly Molove expressed gratitude towards the initiative and the local bread company and further used the opportunity to appeal to more local businesses and corporates operating in and around the township to work in uplifting the community.

“We thank the foundation for their continued efforts to assist the school and our learners whom most of them come from the most impoverished backgrounds.

“At least they will be like other children and have bread before school unlike often coming with an empty stomach,” she said adding that she hoped this would become a permanent feature to the school.

In August, the foundation donated brand new jerseys and ties to the learners at the institution.
