Adams defines herself as a community activist, who is passionate about mothers and children.

She explained that she is committed to support, celebrate and empower mothers through the first 1000 days of a child’s life (from conception to age two).

Adams received her licence on July 17 and started offering the antenatal classes from August 6.

“Moms meet once a week, over a period of 10 weeks. These weekly meetings are called visits. Moms can choose to bring a partner or a trusted friend. Each visit is 90 minutes long and is interactive and activity based,” explained Adams.

Residents from Eldorado Park and surrounding areas like Klipspruit, Kliptown, Slovo Park and Freedom Park can all attend these classes.

“The first 1000 days of a child’s life are an opportunity for children’s academic success, health and general well-being.

“We help moms optimise this window of opportunity in a way that is fun and memorable.

“These classes equip moms with the skills and knowledge they need to care for themselves during pregnancy and their children in the important years of life,” she added.

Topics covered during these classes include: self-care and coping mechanisms for long term stress relief, stages of pregnancy, baby development, how to connect with your baby, breastfeeding, budgeting, preparing a birth plan and on the tenth visit, a baby shower and graduation are held.

“Adams acknowledges the importance of clinic visits and notes that her classes do not replace any clinic visits but rather acts as a support class where mothers can learn and engage with each other.“

“It is a safe, non-judgemental space where they feel that they matter and understood during their pregnancy journey,” said Adams.
