Gauteng family home goes up flames

Only two garages could be saved while the rest of the house burnt to the ground.

Two teens managed to escape a fire that destroyed a house on Hibiscus Street.

The incident occurred in the afternoon of September 7 and according to William Ntladi, Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson, they received the call alerting them about the fire around 14:24.

“The first fire station on scene was Albertina Sisulu Fire Station and upon arrival found that the house was well alight and the roof had collapsed,” said William Ntladi, DEMS spokesperson.

“Upon arrival, they found that the house was well alight and the roof had collapsed. Farrarmere Fire Station also arrived for back-up,” said Ntladi.

Also on scene assisting with the blaze were MML Security, SSS Security Services, ER24 and Sec Pros Security.

“Only two garages were saved. The entire house burnt to the ground. According to the information received on the scene, the fire is alleged to have started in the main bedroom.

“At the time of the fire, two teenagers (male and female) are believed to have been inside the house but managed to escape unharmed.”

According to William Ntladi, DEMS spokesperson, only two garages could be saved.

Ntladi added that Farrarmere Fire Station also arrived as back-up to assist in extinguishing the fire, which took about three hours to completely extinguish.

“The cause of the fire is still unknown and is subject to investigations.”
