The merchandising academy is said to be set up in the same yard as the hub where 50 students will soon start the course.

Chairperson of the hub, Phyllis Vilakazi explained that Coca-Cola has approved them for the academy and just last week a container was moved in the yard to prepare space for the new centre.

Vilakazi said the centre will be fully equipped and will look exactly like a retail store with shelves and stock in order for the students to do their practicals.

“All of it will be accredited. Coca-Cola is working with our partner Hluvuka Training and Consulting College to make sure that all of the content is accredited.

“Those 50 beneficiaries will be trained at the centre and when they complete the course they will be absorbed by Coca-Cola or their partners so it’s guaranteed employment,” said Vilakazi.

Upon completing the course, students will be qualified merchandisers. Merchandisers are people who stock the shelves at retail stores.

They also ensure that the displays are appealing to the customers so that they can make sales.

The chairperson is excited about this new venture and mentioned that they will be soon launching the new centre and will be advertising the course and what the requirements are for the 50 beneficiaries.

Vilakzai concluded the interview by saying that the community should ‘watch the space’ because the Greater Eldorado Park Youth Innovation Hub has big plans for youth empowerment in Eldorado Park and the surrounding communities.
