According to the family from Zone 1, they no longer feel safe after someone from Noordgesig has on numerous occasions intimated and attacked their son and his girlfriend.

28 year-old Shai said they had been at Orlando police station and Diepkloof station seeking help but have been “failed” as the suspect is yet to be arrested.

“I have been harassed and attacked in my family home.

“This person even broke the windows of the house trying to get to me and my girlfriend. We reported the incident at Diepkloof Police Station where a case of assault, damage of property and trespassing was opened,” he said.

Shai alleges that was the beginning of a long and horrific encounter with police officials, claiming that police told him they could not arrest the suspect as they feared a dog at his Noordgesig home.

According to Shai, the harassment worsened as suspect attempted attacking them with a panga in one incident and another attack which followed that left him stabbed next to the eye.

“I went to the police station soaking in blood,” Shai told Urban News. “It’s been weeks now. We have two cases against him and yet the police have not arrested him. My life is in danger as he keeps threatening to kill me but the police are seemingly not bothered,” he said

The family has logged a formal complaint against the police station citing their dissatisfaction with the manner the case was being handled.

Family representative Ruth Boice said, “We feel let down because if they had arrested him the first time, Moeketsi wouldn’t have gotten stabbed.

“They are waiting for our son to be killed first before they can take action. We are nearing the third month and no arrest has been made. He thinks he can do what he wants because he knows there are no elders here.”

According to Boice, the police are using the SPCSA as a cover for failing to do their job. She further added that she blames the police for their lack of urgency citing that should anything happen to Moeketsi, his blood would be on their hands.

“This person is endangering lives while the police drag their feet.

“They say they are waiting for the dog to be removed but how many weeks has it been?

“Where is the justice when we need it? These kids now live in fear because this thug can show up at any time,” an emotional Boice said.

In Response, Diepkloof Communications officer, Phephi Matlou said the police station was aware of the case.

“The case has been discussed in our management meetings and we can say the detective handling the case is aware of everything.

The police are currently waiting for SPCSA to remove the dog so we can gain access and make the arrest.

“We can also confirmed that the compliant logged by the family is being investigated by Captain Mbenje pending outcome,” she said.

Matlou further said that police station would dispatch a team to the suspect’s home.
