Sifiso Dlangamandla, one of the powerhouse creatives behind the launch of the market is passionate about bringing people home, encouraging South Africans to enjoy and support local, return to the hood and reconnect with their roots.

Locrate (short for Local Creatives) was born out of the need for young black creatives to develop local platforms to assist them to grow sustainable businesses.

“The concept of Local Creatives is all about creating an environment that allows like-minded people to validate their ideas and create new business concepts that have never existed in townships before,” says Dlangamandla

In 2014, the group came together and created the Locrate Market to ensure that there are platforms for aspiring SMMEs, artists and creatives from different townships.

The idea behind the market is to create an environment where young and aspiring entrepreneurs, creators and innovators can showcase and sell their products, meet other like-minded people, validate original concepts, get tips from established brands, create connections and get the necessary exposure to take their businesses further.
