Eldos tennis club in honour of Raymond Anthony

Two organisations in Eldorado Park celebrate the tennis legend Raymond Anthony by launching a club in honour of him.

F.W Academy partnered with the Greater Eldorado Park Youth Skills Development (GEPYSD) centre to launch a tennis club in honour of Raymond Anthony.

Anthony is a former professional tennis player from Eldorado Park who won multiple provincial and national titles in the 1980s.

On July 23, the two organisations had a tennis clinic as part of the launch where 20 children attended.

Finely Watson from F.W Academy shared that the clinic was a first of its kind since the 1980’s and the aim was to identify tennis talent in Eldorado Park.

“I’m trying to revive all sporting codes in Eldorado Park because we have a lot of youth and I’m trying to fit them in all sporting codes.

“If you don’t play soccer, it’s fine there is hockey, netball, tennis and we are looking forward to collaborating with other stakeholders so that we can overcome the drug problem with sports,” said Watson.

The name of the tennis club is the Raymond Anthony Tennis Club and as soon as it is formed, they will start training and they will then compete.

Loyiso Matsha who is a Tennis SA coach from Germiston will be a mentor to Watson as he learns the skill of becoming a tennis coach.

The coaches are currently working with children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old and hope to grow at a later stage.

Training will be every Saturday between 11 am to 1 pm at the GEPYSD centre in Eldorado Park, Extension 4 and once a month will be going through to the Germiston stadium.If you would like to know more about the club, you can contact Finely Watson on 065 250 4718.
