The police station is also urging the community to avoid walking in the dark streets and open spaces at night.

This follows an influx of cases of rape that have been reported and criminal activities that are linked to criminals using open spaces to target vulnerable and unsuspecting individuals during the early hours of the morning or late evenings.

Communications Officer for Diepkloof SAPS, Captain Phephi Matlou said, “As we are still in the winter season and most streets lights are not working criminals are taking chances of the situation.

“We urge on those going to taxi ranks and bus stops at early hours of the morning to ask family members to accompany them,” she explained.

Matlou added that people must refrain from using shortcuts route and instead use main roads where lights are visible and the roads are clear and safe to use.
