Police demolish illegal tavern

The operation was in response to the spate of violent shootings in the province.

Following the news of the shooting at the Motswaledi Informal Settlement last weekend that left one dead and eight others injured, Diepkloof police held an operation at Sector four together with the JMPD By-laws under the leadership of station commander Brigadier Maake.

The operation was in response to the spate of violent shootings in the province.

The demolishing of an illegal tavern comes after community engagement with Deputy Minister of Police, Cassel Mathale and Gauteng Premier David Makhura who visited the area following the incident.

According to Communication Officer, Phephi Matlou, It is alleged that on July 16, unknown suspects travelling in a quantum randomly shot at the people who were outside the tavern, located at the corner of the main road leading to Devland.

Pile of rubble remains as the police demolish and extract the illegal tavern structure.

A case of Murder and Attempted Murder has since been opened at the Diepkloof Police Station.

Police urge on anyone who has information about the shooting to come forward using the number below 08600 10111 / 011 933 7400 or alternatively use the MYSAPS App to anonymously tip off the police.
