Slim Weng becomes the champion of Dance For Your Dreams competition

Slim Weng wins the dance competition hosted by Golden Grounds Dance Events in association with Eldos FM.

Liessel Kalanji, better known as Slim Weng won the Dance For Your Dreams (DFYD) competition on June 16.

Kalanji is originally from Harare, Zimbabwe and he is a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher and performer.

“My passion for dance began when I was born. I just loved music and dancing since I was a baby. Michael Jackson, the King of Pop was my inspiration, he still inspires me until today even though he’s no more,” said Kalanji.

The 26-year-old shared that he started competing in dance competitions back in 2015 and since then decided to take dance as a career.

“I’m a highly competitive dancer. I compete in almost every dance competition that’s possible for me to take part.

I’ve completed on dance competitions like Redbull Dance your style, Global dance Supreme intercontinental championships, 108 Movement dance festival, Jibilika dance festival, Woza Jam and so much more,” he added.

When it comes to his most memorable competition, Kalanji shared that it is mostly the ones that he won and that being called champion is always a highlight of his career.

If he could describe his dance style, he would say that it is a mix of the most popular street dance styles which range from Afro Dance, Hip Hop, House, Locking, Dancehall, and Popping.

“My experience at DFYD competition was so much fun and so emotional. When I saw how so many people loved and enjoyed what we do, I was emotional.

“I loved seeing small kids showing me some love and also seeing how much they’re in love with the art of dance and are willing to learn,” concluded.
