Walking into the future with Bridge Builders in Eldos

Bridge Builders is a vibrant organisation that focuses on equipping, empowering, development and training young people.

On June 16, Bridge Builders hosted an event that welcomed 20 learners from Eldomaine High School, three from Lancea Vale High School and 20 from Kliptown High School for an empowerment session with one another in Eldorado Park, Extension 9.

Bridge Builders is a vibrant organisation that focuses on equipping, empowering, development, training and impacting the lives of people.

The birthing of the organisation was ignited by an idea to establish programmes and activities that create a pathway to connect the present with the future.

The event provided participants with a chance to learn practical skills for making decisions that will enhance their lives as well as knowledge to assist them make more informed decisions for themselves.

Upon walking in, each participant signed a register and was taken to the coffee and breakfast station, where they could choose what they wanted from several options. Learners were then separated into two groups, one red and one green, with two alternating sessions and activities in between.

This included recognising personal character traits, discovering ones abilities and learning to collaborate with others.

The Red Team with a motivational session gave learners practical skills on how to plan their next step for career choices.

It was facilitated by Jackie Mondi.

The Green Team, facilitated by Gregory Laing, focused on character building and addressing the question “Who Are You?” including self-discovery.

Learners took part in an exercise that assisted them in identifying their working style and how to accept various working styles in a team while accomplishing assignments.

Juma Adams facilitated a variety of exercises that assisted participants discover their strengths and limitations.

The events also taught children the value of being brand ambassadors as they represented their schools.

“I think the importance of a major day in our country’s history has unfortunately been watered down.

“Students took a stand for the wellbeing of their own personal lives and I think it’s important to try and find creative ways for the youth, all South Africans and rest of the World to understand the true meaning of the day and celebrate Youth Day through empowerment,” said Gregory Laing, founder of Bridge Builders.
