The aim of this initiative is to assist young people from Diepkloof and surrounding communities to broaden their prospective career choices.

The event featured a line-up of guest speakers from industries that are rapidly becoming digitized and allowed young people to interact with exhibitors who showcased career alternatives they should consider pursuing.

Foundation’s communications Director, Sanele Khoza said, “The struggles of today are so much different, we have got a high unemployment rate and that’s because the industries that young people want to move in are saturated.

Through the initiative, they will train selected beneficiaries in building the solar PV powered home and home charging system set to address load shedding challenges in the country.

“What we aim to do today is broaden the perspective and horizons so they know of the so many digital careers paths they can take.

“Everybody here has so many skills and today we are just horning those skills to ensure that they have a place in the 4th Industrial Revolution and where the world is moving to.”

During the event, the foundation launched its new initiative in partnership with the University of Johannesburg’s process energy and environmental technology station.

Through the initiative, they will train selected beneficiaries in building the solar PV powered home and home charging system set to address load shedding challenges in the country.

“What we are doing here today is also in line with the SDG quality education, and end of poverty.

“In terms of empowering the youth in skills that can attribute to their growth and future economy will ensure the end of poverty and quality education will come forward,” Khoza concluded.

Local entrepreneur and founder of XeshaSA, Kholofelo Masha said he was committed to taking beneficiaries from the foundation into his training programme.

“The initiative is to train ten young people around Soweto as junior watch markers and technicians. Our idea is that at least in the next five years we would have trained more than a 100 young people.

“These will give them soft skills that they can pick up as early as they can and help them as well to solve the issue of unemployment.”

He further added that it was important to rope in the youth the earlier the better to ensure they acquired the necessary skills to generate income from an early age.
