F.W Academy hockey girls are being recognised in the province

There were about 300 young ladies in the tournament and the regional trials are said to take place in Benoni on June 25 where F.W Academy will also be participating.

F.W Academy’s Hockey team from Eldorado Park Extension 1 participated in Girls Youth Day mini tournament hosted by the Southern Gauteng Development on June 18.

The mini tournament took place at the Randburg Astroturf – Southern Gauteng Hockey Association.

According to Finley who is the founder of F.W Academy, the girls who participated in this provincial tournament were between the ages of 13 and 17 years old.

“We played three games and won 3-0 /4-0 /0-0. We didn’t make for finals unfortunately because of goal advantage. The team that made it won all 3 games in the one stream.

“I just want to say thank you to Mervin Mooi and his team for coordinating such programmes for our youth,” said Watson.

Watson shared that there will be another tournament for Women’s Day at the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

“F.W Academy is well recognised at the provincial and regional levels. We have different age groups in hockey.

“We have U10, U14, U17, U19, and open (seniors). We are looking to start a league in Eldos at Midas Sports grounds with other stakeholders (Zayd Fredericks and Aunt Angele of Titans) please if there are any teams out there who would like to join our league, you can contact me on 065 250 4718,” concluded Watson.
