Parts of Soweto still without water

Johannesburg Water shuts down supply to reduce water levels on the sewer system.

Johannesburg Water(JE) has apologised to residents of Soweto affected by water shortages since Wednesday.

Disruption in water supply is caused by infrastructure isolation to help with the search operation of Khayalethu Magadla from Dlamini.

Seven year old Khaya fell into a manhole while playing with his friends at the park. For about two weeks, the SAPS and Johannesburg EMS have been searching the pipelines from Dlamini to Klipspruit West with no luck.

“Investigations are still in progress, as water levels need to be reduced much further to allow for the search and rescue team to inspect the sewer line.

“In order to make further progress, the Doornkop West reservoir, Chiawelo reservoir and Protea Glen Direct Feed will remain isolated until further notice,” explained Seipati Nyawuza, JW spokesperson.

Areas affected by this isolation include:

Thulani, Lufhereng, Doornkop, Protea Glen, Protea City, Dobsonville Gardens, Green Village, Slovoville, Dobsonville, Chiawelo, Klipriversoog, Dhlamini, Protea Glen, Protea Gardens, Protea South, Protea North and Mapetla.
